Website calls on Israeli Arabs to avoid dressing after consumer discovers it contains alcohol

A website affiliated with the northern branch of Israel's Islamic Movement warned its readers to avoid a brand of Thousand Island dressing produced by a well-known Israeli company. The warning was issued after a local Arab discovered that the dressing contains alcohol.

The Palestine 48 website called on its readers to stay away from the dressing after being approached by Majdi Khatib.

"In recent days, another product was added to the list of products forbidden to Muslims because they contain alcohol," the website said. "Khatib discovered that the dressing contains alcohol and is sold naturally and inadvertently at Arab and Muslim shops."

"I was invited to dinner by a friend and discovered appetizing salads," Khatib recounted. "I asked my friend what he used to make the salad and he told me about the dressing and said it is sold in stores. When I returned home with my wife I checked the dressing's ingredients and was stunned to discover that it contains alcohol, without directing people's attention or warning them."

Khatib noted that he approached a senior figure in the manufacturer's marketing department and was told that the company did not mislead anyone, as the ingredients were clearly noted on the packaging. The senior figure reportedly told Khatib that anyone can decide whether he wishes to use the dressing.

This basically means one thing : when your religion cannot be defended with reason, the only option available is VIOLENCE.

Saudis offended by Swiss 'crusader' whistle

Saudi Arabia, April 02, 2008: Swiss football referee Massimo Busacca vowed he would wear a whistle with the Swiss Cross symbol on it during of the Saudi championship on Wednesday, despite anger voiced in the Kingdom at the 'crusader' item.

"I have respect for all religions, including Islam, but I don't see anything offensive in this and am optimistic. I will not give up my 'crusader' whistle," he told pan-Arab daily Al-Sharq al-Awsat.

Many in Saudi Arabia had called for Busacca to sport a different whistle to avoid offending Muslims. He has previously refereed several soccer matches in the Kingdom.

The Swiss Cross is Switzerland's national flag and also forms the world famous Swiss army knife logo. But Muslims associate the Christian symbol with the bloody medieval crusades to conquer Jerusalem and the Holy Land.

Woman artist gets death threats over gay Muslim photos

January 6, 2008, THE Dutch were debating the limits of freedom of expression last week after an artist who photopgraphed gay men wearing masks of the prophet Muhammad was forced into hiding and her work removed from a museum exhibit.

Speaking on the telephone from an unspecified location in the Netherlands last week, the artist, an Iranian exile who goes by the pseudonym of Sooreh Hera, said she had been threatened with “execution”. She accused the director of the municipal museum in The Hague of cowardice for caving in to Muslim extremists.

“They said to me, ‘We’re going to burn you naked or put a bullet in your mouth’,” she said, referring to menacing e-mails. “They say, ‘Now you are locked in your home and you cannot go out any more’.”

She said that by photographing gay Iranian exiles in masks of Muhammad, the founder of Islam, and Ali, his son-in-law, she had wanted to expose a “hypocritical” attitude towards homosexuality in countries such as Iran, where men can be hanged for homosexual conduct.

“They condemn homosexuality but in countries like Iran or Saudi Arabia it is common for married men to maintain relations with other men,” said Hera. “Works of art can be provocative. It is not an artist’s job just to paint flowers. Art should shine a light on social issues.”

The photographs were part of an extensive collection of images by Hera of mostly Dutch gay men. Another part of her exhibit was a video featuring hard rock music and images of Iranian clerics interspersed with pictures of naked men.

Wim van Krimpen, director of the museum, initially praised Hera’s collection of photographs as “exceptional”. Last month, however, he announced that the masked men could not be included in the forthcoming exhibition because “certain people in our society might perceive it as offensive”.

29 February 2008, A Berlin art gallery has temporarily closed an exhibition where one of the posters made fun of Islam's holiest shrine, the Kaaba in Mecca.The decision came after threats believed to be from Muslims.

The exhibition was organised by the Danish group Surrend, which said it wanted to oppose religious extremism. A poster on display showed the Kaaba - the black granite cube-shaped building in Mecca. The words "stupid stone" in German were superimposed on it. It is toward the Kaaba that Muslims must pray.

Confronting ideology

The poster - among 22 on display - also showed the faithful walking around it with speech bubbles saying "Zionist occupied government", which referred to the title of the exhibition.

The Danish artists said they wanted to satirise the conspiracy theory that Jews are behind everything - a view they say is prevalent among neo-Nazis and in parts of the Arab world.

The director of the art gallery in Berlin said there had been threats of violence if the poster was not removed, so they had decided to shut for a while. But he has also expressed concern about groups of individuals censoring art.

The art group Surrend says its mission is to make fun of the world's powerful men and crazy ideological conflicts, using stickers, posters and advertisements.

In 2006 Surrend took out an advertisement in an Iranian daily with a picture of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad expressing support for his fight against US President George Bush.

It looked harmless, but the text was carefully arranged so that the letters at the start of every line spelled out the word "swine" when read vertically.

March 18, 2008; WYCOMBE Islamic Society has criticised Eden's opening celebrations claiming they failed to represent the town's ethnic minorities. The group, based at the Islamic Centre in Arnison Avenue, has hit out at the shopping centre's Brazilian carnival parade on Thursday morning.

Volunteer Zahid Jawed, speaking on behalf of the society, said: "I had the wonderful opportunity to witness the opening of the Eden shopping centre last Thursday. "This has been much needed and will no doubt attract people and jobs to the area. It could also have been a great opportunity to celebrate the town and its people.

"Instead we had the pleasure of watching such things as semi naked dancers on parade. It was made even worse as I had taken children with me. "Once again the planners decided to ignore and alienate significant parts of the local population and then will no doubt accuse them of not wishing to integrate.

"I would have liked to have seen a much more local and multicultural celebration on the day.
"Another opportunity for community cohesion wasted."

In other words, if the parade does not look like this picture below, it will be deemed NOT Multicultural & ISLAMOPHOBIC.
